Learning designers serve as the “instructional designers” at the School of Humanity. They create interdisciplinary learning pathways and workshops aligned with the curriculum learning outcomes and our pedagogy. As part of designing the pathways, they also curate learning resources and design activities, projects, and assessments that learners participate in.

✔️ Weekly Tasks

On a weekly basis, learning designers can expect to:

• Design workshops, with session outlines and slides, aligned with curriculum outcomes.
• Design and develop interdisciplinary learning courses and projects
• Design project-based assessments to evaluate the attainment of learning outcomes
• Curate learning content with guided activities for learners
• Evaluate learning pathways against quality assurance standards
• Design session plans, outlines, and slides for relevant live sessions.
• Create guides for learning facilitators/educators who lead live sessions

• Instead of memorization, the emphasis is on the development of skills, mindsets, and behaviors.

• Instead of standardized/summative exams, we evaluate learning through a variety of project-based assessments.

🤖 Qualifications & Prior Experience

Our learning/instructional designers are interdisciplinary thinkers and educators. They have a commitment to our curriculum, mission, and approach and guide learners towards a path of purposeful learning.

Below is a summary of characteristics that we look for in learning experience designers:

Previous experience

• Prior experience with curriculum and/or instructional design
• Experience with inquiry-based, project-based, mastery-based, and/or interdisciplinary education
• Expertise in at least two literacies from our Human Literacies Framework
• Prior experience with teaching/facilitation is strongly preferred

Skills, mindsets & dispositions

• Strong written communication skills
